Mujati Out Through Injury
Springbok prop Brian Mujati won't play in Friday night's Currie Cup clash with Griquas at Newlands. He did up an arm injury and won't be risked for Friday's match.
Mujati has been a juggernaut for the Cape side since his return from Springbok duty and solved a lot of problems in their ailing front row. But his injury means coach Allister Coetzee is forced to call on the 19-year-old JC Kritzinger to start at tighthead. Kritzinger made a big impression in the matches against the Blue Bulls and the Sharks and is more than capable of holding his own.
Western Province veteran Schalk Ferreira moves in on the bench. Mujati's withdrawal is the only change in the lineup with Coetzee continuing to field his strongest side with an eye on qualifying for the semi-finals. Remember, WP have to win their remaining matches against Griquas, the Boland Kavaliers and the Lions with bonus points to stand a chance of making it through. They should have ! a good idea of just what's needed from them after this round of Currie Cup action.
Captain Jean de Villiers says all this talk of resting the Springboks because they are over-worked is nonsense. He says they want to get out on the field as much as possible to help Province through to the playoffs.
"I think consistency is very important for a team to perform, Allister (Coetzee) has shown that in his selection. We need to return the favour and play good rugby and if guys get injured then they'll get rested..."
Jonathan Kaplan, who controlled the Tri-Nations final last weekend so well, is the referee for the match which kicks-off at 19h10.
"WP, JOU LEKKA DING!"
